lookhowshelightsupthesky asked: What is equine insurance? Almost all boarding places require it where I live and I have no idea what it is or how I get it (except that it's not covered under my family's home owner plan meaning I have to get it seperately). I come to you because I can barely seem to find other people who know and I need to figure this part of the equation out by early February (I know you get a TON of asks which is why I feel bad clogging your box with this). I figure if anyone knows, you do.
I’ve never been to a barn that required equine insurance, I would be sure to ask that they are insured themselves as it sounds kind of like they might not be.
There are a couple types of Equine insurance, the most relevant to you would be Liability and Mortality. It’s expensive and honestly, not something you should need to consider unless you are giving lessons or own an exceptionally expensive horse.
I’d really be hesitant about a barn requiring it (unless your giving lessons)
